MOSI BRIDGE
Au-pair programme Austria

A home away from home. An experience for life.

With an au pair you bring cultural exchange, languages and a helping hand for your children into your home – and a young person gets the chance to discover Austria and learn German. MOSI BRIDGE accompanies both sides: from selection through AMS and embassy to everyday life.

The programme

Cultural exchange that enriches both sides.

An au pair lives with the host family as a family member for a limited time, helps with childcare and light, family-related tasks – and gets to know the country, language and culture. The legal framework in Austria is clearly regulated and protects both sides.

MOSI BRIDGE e.U. accompanies you throughout the entire process: from preparing the documents through the notification to the Public Employment Service (AMS) and the application at the embassy to your au pair's arrival and integration in Austria.

16.5 hours per week – the legal maximum working time
50 % of the German course costs are covered by the host family (minimum)
100 % accompanied – from selection to everyday life

The path to your au-pair stay

Three steps to arrival.

01

Selection & contract

Host family and au pair get to know each other and decide to go ahead. Both sides sign the Austrian model au-pair contract.

02

AMS notification

We prepare the au-pair notification to the competent Public Employment Service (AMS). The confirmation of notification is the basis for the next step.

03

Residence permit & arrival

With the AMS confirmation, the au pair applies at the Austrian embassy in their home country for the residence permit “Aufenthaltsbewilligung – Sonderfälle unselbständiger Erwerbstätigkeit (au pair)”. Once approved: travel and settle in.

Important: book the flight only once the residence permit has been granted. Please inform us immediately about changed travel dates, additional documents requested by the authorities or a changed family situation – this keeps the procedure on track.

Duties & responsibility

Clearly regulated – for a good life together.

For host families

  • Family member for a while A respectful welcome into everyday family life – at eye level.

Conditions

Binding and transparent.

These key points apply to every au-pair relationship in Austria – we make sure they are respected.

Working time & tasks

A maximum of 16.5 hours per week. This includes: looking after the children, accompanying them to school or kindergarten, playing with them, preparing children's meals, folding children's laundry, tidying the children's room and light household tasks.

Accommodation

Own room with bed and wardrobe, heating, electricity, bathroom use and shared use of the living areas – free of charge. We expressly recommend a desk and internet access.

Meals

Adequate meals every day, free of charge – including on days off and during illness.

Pocket money

The statutory monthly remuneration under the Austrian provisions in force. Board and lodging are provided free of charge on top and remain untouched by the remuneration.

German course

The au pair improves their German during the stay. The host family enables regular course attendance and, under the Austrian model contract, covers at least 50 % of the course costs.

Insurance

Before starting work, the au pair is registered with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK). Depending on the status, an additional private health and liability insurance is advisable – we are happy to advise.

Clearly defined: outside the au-pair framework

An au pair is a family member for a while and supports with the children. These tasks therefore belong in other hands:

  • Deep cleaning of the entire house
  • Gardening
  • Renovation work
  • Caring for sick or elderly persons
  • Working in the family business
  • Full-time childcare
  • Tasks of cleaning staff or domestic helpers
After arrival

Settling in well – step by step.

After arriving in Austria, we accompany you through the first administrative steps and the start into everyday life:

  • Register the residence (Meldezettel)
  • Collect the residence permit
  • Check the registration with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK)
  • Open a bank account (if needed)
  • Start the German course
  • Get to know the neighbourhood
  • Discuss the house rules together
  • Hand over important phone numbers
Documents

These papers matter.

We tell you in good time what is needed when – and check everything before submission.

  • Valid passport
  • A1 German certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • Passport photos
  • Au-pair contract
  • AMS confirmation of notification
  • Residence permit
  • If required: NBI clearance
  • If required: apostille or certified translations
